Lake Prairie Art News, May 26 from Ms. Sayers, Lake Prairie's Art Teacher

After 18 years, I will be moved to the middle school. Since I have been utilizing technology with the younger students & there was a vacancy at the middle school, they decided that I would be the best fit for that position.
I have enjoyed working with your child(ren), seeing them grow, watching the spark when they find something they like, and connecting with each and everyone. I will greatly miss working with all of the little ones. As I'm thinking back on my career at LP, I'm amazed at what our students and I have been able to accomplish. We have had an after school art honors program, a newspaper, photography, and a stop animation clubs. I have been a coach for spellbowl and Girls on the Run. Students have won the DARE (drug free) poster contest and Artsonia "Artist of the Week" since I began teaching here. During my years here I have given our students an authentic, global audience through Artsonia, and our artwork has been display not only at our local library, but at the FAME (Foundation of Art and Music in Elementary education) festival. We also have been featured numerous times in the newspaper for the outstanding things that our students have created. I have won elementary art educator of the year, won many grants for materials for the art room, taught students about fused glass, presented at state and national conventions, been a representative on the board of the Art Education Association of Indiana, been a board member of FAME, and been a building technology leader. While many of these things may seem like personal accomplishments, they were done for our children & because of their excitement and love of the programs I continued to look for ways to make our art program innovating. I would not be the teacher I am without all of the kids and the families of LP. Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with me and for your support. We just learned that our 5th grader, Rebecca5540 is in the running for Artsonia's Artist of the Week. She needs your votes to win a gift certificate for art supplies, a plaque featuring her fabulous Radial Symmetry Design, and eternal fame! The art room will also win $100 for art supplies! She was randomly chosen by Artsonia to complete in their Artist of the Week contest. Click the image or here to vote. No login needed. Vote once per day per device through Saturday. This is the first time we have had a student in the Artist of the Week. So PLEASE get the word out and show support for our Lake Prairie artist! Lake Prairie Art News, Mar. 20 from Ms. Sayers, Lake Prairie's Art Teacher With the art show quickly approaching, I am looking for few volunteers who would be willing to mount & tag artwork, hang artwork, or take down art work once our show is over. Students work will be in the halls for Grandparents day, April 10th & 11th, & I try to have one piece of artwork for each student. Without volunteers that makes for a very time consuming process for me. So if you would consider donating a couple of hours, please let me know. How appropriate that the Lego Movie has come out at the same time that Lake Prairie will be offering a Stop Animation Club. Stop animation is where you set up a scene with characters & take a picture. Then move the character or characters a little and take another picture. You repeat this process with little changes and then put it together to make a movie. With very short intervals between photos it appears that the object is moving. You can use anything to make the movie from Legos to clay to cars to McDonalds toys - if you have any extras of these items, please let me know. Using the iPads, we use stop-motion animation to bring figures to life! By using your child's amazing imagination, they will create stop-motion animation movies that not only encourage the development of story-telling, but also provide an opportunity for kids to use movie production tools. The club will take place on Wednesdays from after school until 3:30 in the month of April. Due to limited devices - I will only take 6 students. More details will be sent home next week. I can't wait to finally get this project started!!! Below are a couple of stop animations that I created & one by a student |
